Rasputin is an eccentric Russian monk who possesses a strange gift of healing, as well as an irresistible charm that no woman can resist. Using his gifts, he propells himself to the Russian court and gains a great influence on Tsarina. But on his way upwards he makes many enemies who begin to plot his assassination.

Hammer's portrayal of mysterious Rasputin's life story may not be historically accurate, but it sure offers plenty of excitement and fun, mostly due to Christopher Lee's energetic performance. Rasputin was filmed back-to-back with Dracula: Prince of Darkness, using the same sets and most of the cast.
